Bus Tour - Saturday, 15 March 2008
The Sustainable Otautahi Christchurch 'Transition Communities' group organised a bus tour of some very interesting Christchurch community-based initiatives thst have strong associations with important aspects of sustainability.
Each is an example of an activity which has a strong social context both directly and indirectly.
Each is productive, with a particular central purpose.
Each is also contributing to the community in ways that can positively influence the evolution of a sustainable Christchurch, through re-localisation. They show what local people can achieve by working together to make a common vision a reality.
The SOC Transition Communities group believes that while this tour visited only a small selection of many examples of community endeavour it illustrated some of the variety and potential that exists in Christchurch.
We hope also that tour participants recognised the potential that exists when projects such as these are combined and reinforced by others - we can join together and build together.
Stops were made at:
- Te Whare Roimata
- Strickland Street Community Gardens
- Addington Bush
- Project Lyttelton
